Press Release

i feel familiar yet long-missed flagstones

by James Grammer

a flagon (1)—

would that Calais

were a city full of birds

ready to wend wing

in the buttery cornflower

of a winter’s sky.

(1) stumble onward to the quay where once I’d examined eels—

how frail now the image seems. one might regard

it as the lacy wing of a caddisfly new-emerged from stony lair

in a swift river.

how i long now to taste

the sweet sharp reeds

and metallic silt of the trickling mountain streams,

churning into cream

the grass so fresh and thick

cows never dreamt of hunger.
