Matt Irie (b. 1977) lives and works in the Chicago area. He holds an MFA from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. Irie participated in the Luleá Art Biennial, Luleá, Sweden (2009) and was included in Double Take, a public exhibition of site-specific sculptural works funded by The Public Art Fund at MetroTech, Brooklyn, NY (2010). Irie’s paintings are collages of ribbons of acrylic paint applied to panel. The seemingly improvised line work is in fact painstakingly replicated to construct highly textured surfaces. Most recently his work was included in exhibitions at Alan Koppel Gallery, Chicago, IL and SUPERDUTCHESS, New York, NY.
